2023 D89 Middle School Spelling Bees

In mid-January 2023, Irving Middle School, Stevenson Middle School, and Washington Dual Language Academy hosted their annual school spelling bees. The winners will be competing at the District 89 Spelling Bee which will be held on February 13, 2023.

Irving Middle School Spelling Bee Results

Irving Students6th Grade Irving Spelling Bee lasted for 12 rounds with the winning word being ‘bobbed.’ Jamarrie Shaw took 1st place, Caylee Morales took 2nd place, Mariah Flowers took 3rd place, and Naomi Green will be the Alternate.
7th Grade Irving Spelling Bee lasted for 8 rounds with the winning word being ‘embrace.’ Daniel Gills took 1st place, Natazia Holman took 2nd place, Jimmy Eggleston took 3rd place, and Zoey Walker will be the Alternate.
8th Grade Irving Spelling Bee lasted for 31 rounds with the winning word being ‘quibble.’ Jahleel Akbar took 1st place, Demarco Christian took 2nd place, Demari Alexander took 3rd place, and Kendrick Hampton will be the Alternate.

Stevenson Middle School Spelling Bee Results

Stevenson students6th Grade Stevenson Spelling Bee lasted for 35 rounds with the winning word being ‘query.’ Casandra Padilla took 1st place, Vida Delgado took 2nd place, Deborah Adeyemi took 3rd place, and Brianely Salas will be the Alternate.
7th Grade Stevenson Spelling Bee lasted for 25 rounds with the winning word being ‘blunder.’ Levi Dordoba took 1st place, Eliyah Gallo took 2nd place, Sofia Prather took 3rd place, and Jayden Hernandez will be the Alternate.
8th Grade Stevenson Spelling Bee lasted for 9 rounds with the winning word being ‘provocation.’ Jose Ayala took 1st place, Joel Aguilar took 2nd place, Dalila Robles-Salguero took 3rd place, and Dalila Tellez will be the Alternate.

Washington Dual Language Academy Spelling Bee Results

Washington Students6th Grade Washington Spelling Bee lasted for 15 rounds with the winning word being ‘vestments.’ Trinittey Ratcliff took 1st place, Jayleen Martinez took 2nd place, Teresa Lopez took 3rd place, and Nicholas Galindo will be the Alternate.
7th Grade Washington Spelling Bee lasted for 11 rounds with the winning word being ‘pistons.’ Isaiah Johnson took 1st place, Ilani Hererra took 2nd place, Lauren Washington took 3rd place, and Melanie Smith will be the Alternate.
8th Grade Washington Spelling Bee lasted for 37 rounds with the winning word being ‘reputed.’ Edgar Bonilla took 1st place, Sofia Roman took 2nd place, Nathaniel Bell took 3rd place, and Harmony James will be the Alternate.
